INTRODUCTION

Obviously, computers cannot take the back seat in the world today. Computers have really gone beyond business tool; they become one of the necessities of life. If you asked me right now, some of the things I consider as the basic necessities of life.

I would probably tell you they are food, water, clothing, shelter, a mobile phone, and a computer. Yes computers are that important.

Unfortunately for some but fortunately for you, there are still tons of people out there who don't know how to use computers effectively. Computers are highly technical and to use them, you have to possess the right knowledge and skills. Some people may be able to just grab a computer, read the manual but for most people isn't so.

Computer Basic Lesson Institution (CBLI) is an initiative of Silvanus Ndzukiso Mnweba, a computer basic lesson project developed and implemented by an individual while he was working as an employee at NORSA (Non-Governmental Organization) in 23 Mfuleni Street Wellington (Western Cape). The project aim to provide basic computer basic lesson/s training to all residents in need of having basic computer skills and empower them to know how to use a computer.

The lessons are divided into two categories, the first category, we provide lesson for individuals who are at their place or home having or not having a computer or laptop, we visit the customer's or clients home or place and educate them how to use their computer or laptop.

We are giving a basic lessons learning how to transfer files with a flash drive, if necessary. Each student learn at their own rate or pace. We adjust your lessons to match the person's ability level and the type of software they use or want to learn. We test the student each week on what they have learned in the previous lesson and home work assignment.

Second category, we  provide lesson in groups from 2 - 8 participants per session at CBLI, a client can apply the group lessons for company, organization employee, students and educators for the local schools,  lessons can be given at their facility if they have appropriate meeting room with computers in it, two sessions per week for 15-20 sessions. Upon completion of the program the participants will received a certificate.

The sessions are made up of four core focus areas of Microsoft Office® training and those core areas were:

  • Section A (Power point)

  • Section B (Word Processing 2007 - 2010) Windows 7 and XP)

  • Section C (MS—Excel 2007 -  2010)

  • Section D (Internet)

  • Section E (Typing Master Program)

Silvanus learned that there is a growing need for computer basic lesson training and its focus area includes: school dropout/leavers, homes, employees, youth, adults and the community at large and skills assessment needs. Silvanus analyzed and developed the program based on those needs.

By using your personal computer, you can accomplish many tasks that might be more difficult and time-consuming to accomplish on your own. Some of those tasks might include writing a letter, analysing numeric information, or sending an e-mail message; however, before you use your personal computer, you need to understand what it is and how it works. In this lesson/s, that is what you will do.
